Station 14 - Jesus is placed in the tomb

Remember

Stark death.

It seems so clear-cut, so final, so black and white.

Like good and evil, right?

Or does the line between good and evil pass through the center of the human heart?

What to remember? What to understand? What to hope for?

In the tomb, find the prayer written by an unknown woman which was found on a piece of wrapping paper in Ravensbruck concentration camp, WWII.

“O Lord, remember not only the men and women of goodwill but also those of ill will. But do not remember the suffering they have inflicted upon us; remember the fruits we brought thanks to this suffering, our comradeship, our loyalty, our humility, the courage, the generosity, the greatness of heart which has grown out of this; and when they come to judgment, let all the fruits that we have borne be their forgiveness.”

What do we pray for?

John 19:38-42

Afterward Joseph of Arimathea, who had been a secret disciple of Jesus (because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate for permission to take Jesus' body down.

When Pilate gave him permission, he came and took the body away.

Nicodemus, the man who had come to Jesus at night, also came, bringing about seventy-five pounds of embalming ointment made from myrrh and aloes.

Together they wrapped Jesus' body in a long linen cloth with the spices, as is the Jewish custom of burial.

The place of crucifixion was near a garden, where there was a new tomb, never used before.

And so, because it was the day of preparation before the Passover and since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.
